A ductless mini-split is a small outdoor heat pump connected by a refrigerant line to one or more wall-mounted indoor heads. There is no ductwork, so it is the go-to fix for home additions, converted garages, workshops, sunrooms and older homes that were never ducted. Each head has its own thermostat, which means you can cool the bedroom without cooling the whole house. The installation details matter more than the brand: proper line-set sizing, a tight vacuum and a correctly routed condensate drain are what separate a quiet, efficient system from one that leaks water down the wall.
